THIS MONTH'S FOCUS ISSUE:
Sample Sermon Guide for Faith Leaders
The Good News in Bad Times is a bi-weekly policy briefing explicitly crafted for faith leaders on advocacy and ministry's front lines.
This month, we are focused on How to Pick High-character, Compassionate Candidates in the Coming Election.
We are less than 100 days away from early voting and Election Day on November 3rd. With only about 3 months to prepare and organize our communities to vote, we are sharing preaching and teaching tools you can easily use and edit to fit your style. It is our responsibility to preach and teach the facts now, prepare for what’s to come, ensure our congregants are prepared this Fall, and review what we can expect if we are successful in high voter turnout. Pastors cannot tell congregants whom to vote for. But you should provide biblical guidance on how to pick good leaders or candidates from Jesus’s teaching.

Dear [Senator/Representative Last Name],
As a faith leader and your constituent, I urge you to protect the most vulnerable in our communities based on Jesus Christ's teachings, which remind us that we must take care of “the least of these.”
I am deeply concerned about (INSERT YOUR CONCERN HERE). These decisions disproportionately harm Americans of ALL backgrounds, including low-income and aging populations.
Now more than ever, we need moral courage in public policy. As a person of faith, I ask you to lead with justice, mercy, and compassion.
Thank you for your service. I am praying for your leadership.
Sincerely,
